It seemed like i was able to grab the clamp before it fully reset to initial position, which gave me the leeway to get the last bit of distance to make it lock into final position. I moved the clamp at the max range of motion i could, then released clamp, quickly moved mouse back to grab clamp again before it reached initial position, then moved clamp back to max range of motion to lock into place.
